The book of Hebrews closes with a section of Scripture that begins this way: Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20, 21).
In my Bible, that section of Scripture is given the heading “The Benediction,” which means “the blessing.” And what a blessing this is! Our God is a God of peace, but His power is undeniable and illustrated in this passage by His power over death itself.
The blessing here is that God, our God, our all powerful God, can indeed equip us to do His will (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Being the God of peace, He can give us a peace that is beyond all understanding (Philippians 4:7). So, there truly is nothing in this world that I need fear. And that gives me comfort. Remember, God loves you and so do I.
